Djokovic Moves On To The Roland Garros Final Against Alcaraz Who Ends Up Lame

The Serbian Tennis Player Defeats The Player From Murcia, Who Was Injured With An Even Score (6-3, 5-7, 1-1).

Unexpected blow of effect. The match of the year. The Roland Garros final had the least expected ending. Novak Djokovic qualified for the semifinals by beating Carlos Alcaraz 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1, 6-1. No one can know what would have happened if the injury of the player from Murcia had not broken a spectacular and exciting match until that moment. Djokovic will be in the final again this Sunday. The seventh and, so far, two titles 2016 and 2021.

“I feel sorry for Carlos. He is an unbelievable player. The match had been tough in the first two sets, then he changed everything. I’m sure he will come back and win this tournament,” said the Serbian tennis player on the court. He knows he still has one last step left. “This is not over. There is another match left but I am happy to play another final again. I hope to give the best of my level this Sunday and win the title.”

“The match was broken at 6-3, 5-7 and 1-1 on the scoreboard Alcaraz suffered an injury to his left leg after a run. He stood still, pinned, on the court, not moving and asked for immediate medical attention. His decision cost him the loss of the game because according to the rules you can’t ask for attention until you change fields. The public booed the chair umpire. Alcaraz limped off to his chair.

Desperation Towards Ferrero

He didn’t know whether to retire. “I know, Juanki. But it’s too soon to retire. I’m going to make one last attempt. It’s here, here, here, here and here.”, he pointed to the top of his calf and then his leg. “It’s incredible, it can’t be, it can’t be, it can’t be!” he said to Juan Carlos Ferrero and the whole team. He decided to continue, but nothing was the same anymore. Djokovic took the set by breaking the Murcian tennis player’s serve three times. Alcaraz could not respond.

The current number 1 went to the locker room to be treated by the physio. Alcaraz returned to the court but nothing was the same. The battle fought in the first two sets, nothing had to do. The player from Murcia returned some balls but was unable to run after them, as he had done when his body was at maximum speed and began to threaten the victory.

Djokovic tried to escape, to continue playing, but the public booed him every time he made Alcaraz run. But then he also cheered the Serb when he won his points. Tennis had disappeared from the court. The show was broken and quite a few fans were leaving their seats.

Alcaraz held on the court without much explanation. Djokovic did not miss his chance. He did not lose a single game, although his celebrations for a point he won, were not in keeping with the moment, nor the situation. It cost him the booing of the spectators who were still in the Phillippe Chatrier and cheered Alcaraz, every time he won a point and when he won a game, the only one since his injury.

Last Step

Djokovic earned the chance to win his third Roland Garros and the coveted 23rd Grand Slam, to break the record of 22 that he shares with Rafael Nadal, absent due to injury. He still has one last step to go, but he overcame the toughest opponent who could have prevented him from doing so. On Sunday, the winner of the other semi-final between Alexander Zverev and Casper Ruud will be waiting for him in the central court.
